LM 376 - Word Play - Happy

Happy New Year!  This month at Lasting Memories, our theme is "word play."  There will be a word each week to use somewhere on your layout.  This week's word is "happy."  (You can use happy, happiness, happiest etc).

I decided to create a layout for my Dad's birthday.  He was 64 in November.  We went out to dinner at a local restaurant and then went to see Murder on the Orient Express.  He loved the original movie and was so excited for this re-make.

All paper and embellishments are from the Carta Bella Traditions Collection.

Challenge #1: Use Cake

I am playing along with Memories in Thyme's online National Scrapbook Day crop/party.  For challenge #1, they want us to use cake in our project.

I have been meaning to create this layout for a while and this was the perfect opportunity.  Last March, we celebrated my grandfather's 89th birthday.  He was home on hospice and he passed away almost a month later.  We knew this would be his last birthday and we wanted to make it special.

My first job was working at a bakery, and I worked there for 6 years.  I learned how to decorate cakes, so anytime there's a party, my friends and family ask me to make a cake.

My 29th Birthday Layout

We went out for Chinese on my 29th Birthday.  My mom, brother, sister-in-law, and husband were there.  My dad was at work.

My husband even shared his sushi with me, which is why we took a goofy picture of me taking a piece off his plate.  LOL

After dinner, we rushed home to "batten down the hatches."  Hurricane Sandy hit Philadelphia that night.

Tuesday Throwdown #30

Happy Tuesday everyone! After a 2 week hiatus, we at Tuesday Throwdown are BACK!  Our challenge this week is embossing.  I chose to dry emboss using my cuttlebug, as well as wet emboss the sentiment using embossing powder.

Our sponsor is Robyn's Fetish and we were able to use her adorable images and paper!  I just loved this playful puppy image!

Here's my card:

Two Quick & Easy Birthday Cards

My two best friends live in New York.  They were both home for Easter weekend.  I had dinner with them on Saturday night.  Since both of their birthdays are in April, I wanted to give them their cards rather than mail them.  I made these two card using Lyrical Letters and K&Co Paper.  I also used adhesive pearls.

Happy Birthday Mom!

My mom's birthday is in a few weeks and I thought I would make a card for her.  For her gift, I am giving her movie passes so that she and I can go to see the new Sex and the City movie when it comes out in May.  She and I watched all 6 seasons of the TV show and saw the first movie together.

My mom is a natural blonde and she has a siamese cat named Jasper, so I made Tilda & her cat look like them.

Inside:

Stamps: Magnolia Tilda with cat, Cat, Sentiment Stamp by Inkadinkado
Patterned Paper: DCWV Summer Stack
Misc: Nesties, Adhesive Pearls, Bic Mark it Markers, Ribbon from stash, Gelly roll white pen,

7. SPCC - color combo (teal, green, white) and recycling (I used the "reverse cut from the nestie on the inside of the card instead of throwing it out - does that count?)
8. Simon Says Stamp - a touch of green
