Get well soon card...

My grandmother has been in the hospital since Saturday, so I made this card for her. She had the symptoms of a stroke, but the doctors couldn't find any evidence that she had one....

Update: My grandmother got out of the hospital last night and is doing great.

Tools for making Mosaic collages

I just got this FABULOUS new book! It is a 96 page book about designing photo mosaics. It was written by Tami Potter and is available for sale on her web site. It's only $19.99!

I just went to A.C. Moore yesterday and got this AWESOME new toy! I have been into mosaic layouts recently and this will really come in handy!

It is a magnetic workspace. The ruler is magnetic and it came with 8 small magnets to hold down your page. You can use it to cut items with a craft knife or just to hold things in place while you're scrapping.

It is made by Basic Grey - it costs $28.99 normally, but I had a coupon and got 50% off! So I really paid $13.99!

This Marvy 1" punch is great for making 1" squares for mosaics.

I am going to be starting my wedding scrapbook soon (as soon as I finish my honeymoon scrapbook - I know, I went out of order!). I have never done a themed scrapbook before, but I might do one for my wedding. My bridesmaids wore dark purple (fall wedding) and they carried flowers in different shades of purple & pink.

Here is my idea: I want to do a scrapbook with all mosaic layouts and use different shades of purple for all the backgrounds etc. It's probably easier to show you than tell you. As soon as I get started, I will post every page I create.

Do you have any ideas, comments, or suggestions for me? If so, please leave a comment on this blog post.

My New Bag...

I was at Michael's yesterday. They were having a sale on these bags - 40% off. So I got this bag for $14.99! It will surely come in handy when I go to my friend's house to scrapbook.

I get together with my friend Jess about once per week to scrap. We take turns going to each others houses, since we live 30 minutes from each other.

I will be trying out my bag this Saturday!

Before I filled it with stuff... Isn't the pattern cute? They also had pink and green, but I thought this would match most of my outfits ;-)

The back has places meant for scissors. I don't use my scrapping scissors very much and instead, I put my markers there.

I have already filled most of this side of the bag. I am bringing my most used stamps, punches, buttons, etc. And of course, I have my fasenator - I love that thing!

Spring Flower Card

I saw a similar card posted by Trisha on the Cricut messageboard. I used Plantin Schoolbook for the card, flowers, and leaves. I also used ribbon and a Martha Stewart craft punch for the edges.

I haven't decided what I am going to use this card for, so I left room at the top for a sentiment.

I made this card and envelope for a wedding I'm attending next month. I used the Wild Card cartridge and the cuttlebug swirls embossing folder.

St Patty's Day...

I know that I'm a few days late, but I wanted to show the paper dolls I made for St Patty's Day. I used the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge.

Brother In Law's Flyers Card

My brother in law, Dennis is a HUGE Flyers fan. His 29th birthday is next weekend, so I made him this card. Obviously, the jersey # is his age and the name is his last name.

I printed out the logo. I hand cut & drew the jersey. The card, lettering, phrase, and envelope were all from Wild Cards. The "29" was cut using Plantin Schoolbook.

Hawaii (Oahu) Dole Garden Mosaic Layout

This is a layout (my favorite!) that I made for my honeymoon in Hawaii. We went in October of 2007. I got this idea from a book on scrapbooking that someone gave me.

For the mosaic:
*I started by drawing the lines for where each block would go (lightly in pencil) on the piece of scrapbook paper that I am using for the background. Each mosaic square is 1"x1" and the spaces between are 1/8." Also, there is a border of 1/2" around the whole thing.
*Keep in mind that not all the photos should be cut up, there should be at least one or two that aren't. (These photos won't be exactly 2" or 3" measure across the squares & gutter before cutting those photos).
*Cutting up the photos for the mosaic is easy, just draw in pencil on the back of the photographs to make 1" blocks and cut along the lines. I find it helpful to number each piece of the mosaic (left to right) so that you can make sure that they line up properly and you aren't dealing with puzzle pieces.
*This mosaic looks great with photos of plants, flowers, landscapes, etc. I have never tried making one with people. I would love to see what everyone else comes up with.

Happy scrapping!

Happy Birthday Poppop!

Yesterday (3/13) was my grandfather's 83rd birthday. I made him the argyle card from the Wild Card cartridge. He is always joking about his age, so on the inside of the card I wrote: "I hope you saved up enough energy to blow out all those candles." He loved it!

My first card!

I have never made a card in my life. I don't just mean that I've never made a card with Cricut. I've never made one. So this was my first attempt. I'm sure there will be plenty more to come!

I used the Wild Card and Walk in my Garden cartridges.
